Sustainable Eco Tourism
  • Supported By: CSR Initiative of T&I Global Ltd.
  • Coverage: CSR Initiative of T&I Global Ltd.
  • Duration: Ongoing since 2023
  • Beneficiaries: 200 islanders including women and youth
  • Objective: To promote sustainable, community-led eco-tourism as a green livelihood model that combines conservation, cultural preservation, and climate resilience in one of India’s most vulnerable island regions.

Project Overview

Located at the confluence of the Hugli and Muriganaga rivers, Ghoramara Island is a climate-vulnerable but culturally and ecologically rich region in the Sundarbans. The island’s natural beauty—its tidal rivers, views of Haldia Port lights at night, sprawling betel and paddy fields, communal harmony, and potential for heritage storytelling—makes it ideal for nature-based tourism. Recognizing this opportunity, SEED launched a sustainable eco-tourism initiative to transform Ghoramara into a “Mini-Gangasagar”—a tourism model rooted in conservation, cultural revival, and community empowerment. Through this project, SEED is developing Ghoramara as a destination that provides responsible travel experiences while creating green livelihoods for its people. The focus is on community ownership, nature conservation, and low-impact tourism infrastructure that respects the island’s fragile ecology and socio-cultural heritage.
