Building WASH Consciousness & Clean Communities in Ghoramara
  • Supported By: CSR of BPCL
  • Coverage: Ghoramara, Sunderban, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal
  • Duration: 2025- 2026
  • Beneficiaries: 1500+ individuals
  • Objective: To promote climate-resilient WASH behaviors among islanders of Ghoramara Island through participatory education, and infrastructure development —ensuring healthier, cleaner and more sustainable community practices.

Project Overview

Through a series of structured and creative daily activities, the project will engage school children, sanitation workers, adolescent girls, SHG members, and local leaders in building awareness around personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and waste management. Key interventions include oath-taking ceremonies on Swachhta values; sit-and-draw competitions for children with WASH themes; wall painting campaigns on hygiene and sanitation messages; rallies and plantation drives; menstrual hygiene awareness and sanitary product distribution for adolescent girls; and construction of water facilities in two government primary schools to ensure access to clean water for sanitation. A robust campaign against plastic pollution will be undertaken through folk performances, pre-awareness sessions, and community-wide waste collection and recycling drives. The project emphasizes inclusion, creativity, and community ownership, using visual, participatory, and interactive methods for long-lasting impact.
